What We Do At Your Event

We are a sneaky singing surprise act that will infiltrate your party, pretending to be just about anyone besides ourselves (waiters, guests, chefs, police, security guards, party crashers). We are experts at hiding in plain sight, so we'll act out our given role for a while to give your guests time to take our pretend role onboard (unless you need us to make a shockingly fast entrance e.g. make-believe fire drill/security breach). Then we announce to your guests that something hasn't quite gone to plan and boom...the moment dissolves into a fully-blown performance of amazing live singing and entertainment.

Standard Service

This package includes everything you'd expect us to provide for a private function or wedding - designed to keep costs to a minimum:

  • One high impact, high energy performance of 20 minutes during your wedding dinner will be enough to make yours the most memorable for years to come
  • We usually perform fun, familiar, upbeat opera favourites (the ones that everyone will recognise even if you’ve never once listened to Classic FM) and musical theatre hits. This style music is the most impressive and entertaining for an act in this style… and just happens to be something we excel in… however we are exceptionally flexible and happy to take requests in any style. Just let us know when you book so that we can make sure to send you the best singers from our team suited to perform your requests.

Additional Upgrade options

These are our awesome additional upgrade options:

  • As professional operatic singers we make quite an impressive sound without any amplification, however a dinning room has a very different acoustic than a concert hall, and although we could happily perform without any vocal amplification in a concert hall for hundreds of audience members for a dining room, regardless of the size of the room, if you have over about 80 guests we recommend that we use high quality hand held radio microphones with a sound engineer and PA suitable for whatever size party you have. We are very happy to work with any professional sound tech you’ve already booked for the event, or if you’d like to book ours in addition we’ll be happy to bring him with all of his first rate equipment so that every one of your guests can enjoy the performance.

Line-Up Options:

  • The standard act line-up usually starts with two of our fabulous performers (typically soprano and tenor, however this is entirely flexible) performing accompanied by high quality recorded backing. The duo act can deliver an entertaining and diverse performance for the most economical budget.
  • If you would like a bit more diversity in the programme we often perform with three singers accompanied by high quality recorded backing.
  • If you would like a fully live performance with the most diverse choices of repertoire, unrestricted by available recorded accompaniments we recommend the duo or trio act performing with our piano accompanist. The additional benefit of this option is that our pianist will be happy to play background piano music for you throughout the meal before and after our performance.
  • If you would like the most spontaneous act around who can perform at the drop of a hat without any backing accompaniment or technical requirements at all you can book our four voice a cappella act who perform our unique, fun (and incredibly virtuosic) bespoke arrangements of musical theatre hits and operatic favourites in fabulous four part harmony. This is a truly unique act!
  • If you want to go really big for some of those larger events we can scale up to four, five or any number of singers enhanced by the recorded orchestral accompaniment or a live ensemble of any size. We don’t work in a box – if you imagine it, chances are we can bring it to life!

Questions & Concerns

Once you’ve decided we’re the right act for your event, you will have a dedicated event coordinator at our agency Alive Network who will be on hand to liaise with you on any issues, questions or concerns. We’ll be in touch around 4 weeks before your event to run through the details and finalise any last minute arrangements, but let us know in the meantime if you have any special requests!

What We'll Do At Your Event

Arrival, set up and soundcheck

If your party has less than 80 guests our ‘set up’ is exceptionally simple. In this case we don’t need any vocal amplification, so will just bring a small system (usually the little yet exceptionally powerful battery powered Bose system) which we will discretely set somewhere to one side of the room for playing our backing accompaniment when the performance begins… that is unless you book the four voice a cappella version of our act, in which case we don’t even need that! We will thusly officially arrive typically half an hour before your guests are due to seat for the meal so that we are ready and in place to blend with the event staff from the start of the service, however we are almost always on site (or in a coffee shop very near by) quite some time earlier since we always leave ridiculous excesses of time to journey to every venue in case of travel delays. … If your party is over 80 guests and we will be using the microphones we will usually arrive no later than half an hour before your guests are due to begin arriving so that we can sound check with the engineer before they are within earshot of the dining room, in order to maintain the surprise. The sound check usually only takes 5 or 10 minutes, but is very useful so that the sound engineer can just set the volume levels and balance between our voices and the backing accompaniment to balance to whatever the unique acoustic in your venue. If you’ve booked our sound engineer they will arrive about 60 to 90 minutes before the rest of the performers in order to get the equipment unloaded, in place and set up and ready for the sound check, otherwise we’ll ask you for the contact details of your pre-arranged technician so that we can speak to them before the day to discuss their set up and arrange to meet them for the sound check when we arrive.

After set up

After we’re set up, settled in and ready to go we spend a lot of time keeping out of the way because although we look like your venue’s staff we don’t want to get in the way of the real work. If you can provide a private room where we can base ourselves while not roaming the room with a bottle of wine or assisting with directions to the toilets this will help us be more focused and comfortable leading into the act for you. (We’ve found that it’s exceptionally important as a singing waiter to find out where the loos are as soon as we arrive because if we don’t we will most certainly be asked directions when we least expect it… and there’s nothing more embarrassing than bluffing and sending someone in the wrong direction!...pardon, I digress.) We will also be grateful for some soft drinks and, if at all possible a (hot?) meal to be provided for us once we’re all set up and organised. Although the performance itself is usually just 20 minutes on paper, it’s a great deal longer than that when you take into account the acting, waiting and in most cases amount of travel that we’ve done in order to bring our talents to you. Though we will of course give you our all regardless of the facilities available, it does make all the difference to be comfortable and well fed so that our focus and energy levels are at their optimum for our performance for you.

1st live set

At the appointed moment (usually just after the main course has been served, though this is very flexible) we make an announcement that something party related or administrative is about to happen (“Please do forgive the intrusion upon your excellent event, we’ll make this quick…”), things don’t seem to go quite to plan and just when you think it’s all going to fall apart we burst into song with a huge high energy act that will put your jaw on the floor. All of a sudden the realisation that we are not in fact waiters dawns (on some faster than others) and your party is suddenly ported to a new level. You won’t believe our performers are there live, doing what we do at your very own dinner party. And no, to pre-emp the question, we are not lip syncing. We do actually make all that sound out of our little selves with consistency and charm as we dance around the room charming your guests. This lasts approximately 20 minutes, after which many of your guests will be saying, “I didn’t think I liked opera, but I loved that!”.

2nd live set & end of the night

For most events one 20 minute performance is perfect to give you that most striking impact and keep your guests talking in raptures for the rest of the evening, especially for a wedding and events where there is a lot going on, however for events where we are your main entertainment, perhaps if you’re not planning to have a band after the dinner, we’re happy to be the feature of your evening by return for a second 20 minute set, usually during desserts after a costume change into our more natural attire (evening dresses and DJs).

If you have any other questions or would like to discuss things with us in greater detail, please feel free to get in touch with our Alive Network agents on 0845 108 5500, who will be more than happy to discuss your requirements.
